Meet the Pastoral Team

Sonia Dyson - Safeguarding & Pastoral Lead.  Woodlands Pathway

Role in school

My role in school is Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead for the Woodlands pathway.

Who I work most closely with...

I work closely alongside Kirsty Elliot the Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead for the Meadows Pathway, along with Hayley Hutchinson Pastoral and Multi-agency Lead.

Background

Before joining the school, I worked for 15 years in a mainstream secondary school that included a sixth form and an alternative provision centre. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential, ensuring that every child feels safe, valued, and heard.

Supporting Pupils

I strongly believe that all young people should have a voice and feel empowered to share their thoughts, feelings, and aspirations. Supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing, helping them overcome challenges, and celebrating their successes are at the heart of my role.

Supporting Families

I am equally passionate about working closely with families and understand the important role they play in a child's development and education. My aim is to provide support, guidance, and a listening ear to pupils and their families whenever needed.

How can you contact me?

Please do not hesitate to reach out if I can offer any support, guidance, or a listening ear. Whether you have a concern, need advice, or simply want to discuss how we can best support your child, I am always happy to help.

Working together with families is key to ensuring that our young people feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.

I can be reached via email at, sonia.dyson@newbridgegroup.org or you can call Reception (0161 370 1312) to request a call-back, and I will get back to you

I look forward to working with you and supporting our school community.

Kirsty Elliot - Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead.   Meadows Pathway

Role in school

My role in school is Safeguarding and Pastoral lead for Meadows pathway.

As a Safeguarding Lead, my priority is to ensure that every child in our school feels safe, listened to, valued and supported.

I work closely with children, families, school staff and other professionals to respond to safeguarding and wellbeing concerns and to make sure children and families receive the right support when they need it.

Alongside safeguarding, my pastoral role allows me to support children and families with a wide variety of needs. I understand that there may be times when families need a little extra help, reassurance or simply someone to talk to.

Background

I joined the school in January 2026, following several years working within the Local Authority. My professional background also includes experience in Early Years and residential care, giving me a broad range of experience in supporting children and their families.

Who I work most closely with...

I work closely with Sonia Dyson (Safeguarding and Pastoral lead) for Woodlands and Hayley Hutchinson, Multi agency and health lead.

Here to support you

Building positive and trusting relationships with our children and families is incredibly important to me.

If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing or emotional needs, have a safeguarding concern, or would simply like some help, advice or guidance, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I will do my best to listen, support you and help you access the right services where needed.

A Warm Welcome to Our Families

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our children, parents and carers.

Hayley Hutchinson - Pastoral and Multi - Agency Worker

Role in school

As the Pastoral and Multi-Agency Worker, I support the wellbeing of pupils and their families across the school. My role focuses on building strong, trusting relationships with families, ensuring they feel supported, listened to, and able to access the help they need.

I take a lead role in coordinating support around health needs, working closely with families and professionals to ensure that children receive appropriate care and provision within school.

A key part of my role is strengthening communication between home and school, alongside working with external agencies to ensure a joined-up, multi-agency approach that supports the best outcomes for children.

Background

I worked at Thomas Ashton School for 10 years, where I initially led a Key Stage 1 class for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.  I later moved into a safeguarding role within the school, becoming part of the Safeguarding Team and further developing my experience in supporting vulnerable children and families.

In addition to my school-based roles, I also delivered Makaton training courses across the region to schools and colleges, helping to promote inclusive communication strategies. Additionally, for the past 16 years I have had the privilege of caring for a young lady with global developmental delay. This has given me valuable insight into the long-term support needs of children and families.

How I can help?

I can help with:

  • Supporting families with concerns at home or school
