SENDco - Louise McMahon
My name is Louise McMahon, and I am the SENCo at Hawthorns School. I have worked at Hawthorns for the last 12 years. During my career I have taught children of all ages and abilities, but my career has mostly been focussed on ensuring that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities have the best opportunities to make progress and to develop into happy, independent adults. Before I came to Hawthorns, I was the SENCo and Inclusion Manager in a large secondary school in Oldham for many years. During my time in these roles I have gained a lot of experience in strategic planning and management to meet need and ensure progress. I have also continued to study at University and have been involved in a number of research studies during this time.
My roles at Hawthorns are now focused around:
· Meeting termly with teachers to discuss the provision in place to ensure progress on EHCP outcomes (e.g. Speech and Language targets) and to plan additional intervention.
· Working with teachers and parents to ensure that referrals to Outside Agencies are successful (e.g. requests for ASC assessment).
· Liaising with and coordinating the work of outside agencies within school: e.g. Integrated Services for Children with Additional Needs (ISCAN), Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), etc.
· Planning and coordinating the work of Educational Psychologists and other commissioned services within school.
· Managing interventions within the school setting.
· Developing initiatives within the school to address the needs of individuals or groups of children (e.g. Bespoke Action Plans).
· Ensuring, along with the other members of the SEND team, that accurate records are kept, that pupil information is updated regularly and that recommendations are acted upon.
I can be contacted on the school telephone or by e mail: louise.mcmahon@newbridgegroup.org or you can call Reception (0161 370 1312) to request a call-back.
Please note that I only work in Hawthorns school on Tuesday and Wednesday. If queries are urgent, please contact Louise Neild – EHCP Coordinator.

Background
I have been working with Hawthorns School for over 18 years. I have seen its development and expansion and have used this connection with the Hawthorns Family to build strong and trusting relationships with the families, agencies and the staff here. During my time here, I have been PA to Headteacher and senior leadership team as well as the Clark of Governors.
